What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a holistic and non-invasive bodywork approach which is based on the idea that the body has a natural flow of energy.
Any blockages in this flow will eventually create an imbalance by promoting stagnation within that part of the body. By applying manual pressure to different “reflex” points within the feet (but could also be on the hands, face or ears!), reflexology helps to restore this natural flow. These points correspond to all parts and systems of the body. Release of tension enables the body to return to a state of equilibrium, enabling it to do its job more effectively and more efficiently.
By using gentle massage and manipulation techniques around the joints of the feet and ankles, the body is encouraged to release holding patterns which enables greater ease and range of movement in these joints. This, in turn, can affect the alignment of the entire body.
Reflexology is an excellent way to reduce stress and anxiety. It helps to improve circulation, increase range of motion, strengthen the immune system, and it can aid in such chronic issues as insomnia, digestive issues, women’s health issues and depression.
Acute and/or chronic conditions tend to be the result of stress patterns built up over a period of time. Additional sessions may be needed, providing the body with the time it needs for breaking down accumulated layers of stress. Also, old injuries or even illnesses (e.g. colds) may re-surface as part of the detoxing and healing process. It is recommended that one gives the body the time and attention it needs to heal.
Reflexology can be tailored to your specific needs on the day, although in some cases reflexology might not be suitable. If you are unsure, please don’t hesitate to contact me and ask!
